hitting drills
An integral part of hitting success includes plenty of practice and effective drills that
reinforce proper mechanics.  The hitting techniques discussed on this site should be applied
to the drills prior to hitting live pitching.  Remember that hitting a baseball is one of the most
difficult task in all of sports.  A better, more effective and lasting way to correct an element of
a swing is to begin having the batter demonstrate the technique through the use of
dry
swinging
.  This is when the batter sets up in the batters' box, imagines a pitch being throw,
and takes a swing.  The parent or coach can more easily notice visible improvements or
make further modifications in this controlled setting.
Tee and Toss drills, which incorporate
the use of a baseball, should follow.  Again, the parent or coach can more easily observe the
progress of the player prior to them actually hitting a live pitch.  Only then, after the batter
has mastered the specific element being addressed, should the player perform the actions of
hitting a live pitch.  In essence, the batter graduates from the dry swing to the tee drill to the
toss drill.  It is the most effective step-by-step routine that allows young players to develop
and reinforce proper hitting mechanics.   More information on this process is discussed in the
book
